About Dr. Teresa Guerra
An ASHA certified bilingual speech language pathologist.
Drawing on more than 20 years in pediatric speech pathology, I support children’s communication and feeding development through compassionate, individualized therapy and mealtime experiences. My work blends evidence-based practice with compassionate, child-centered care.
I specialize in building strong, collaborative partnerships with families while providing speech and feeding therapy for children with developmental disabilities and genetic disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome, as well as other conditions that impact language development and feeding skills. My advanced training includes the assessment and treatment of pediatric feeding disorders related to dysphagia, sensory-based feeding challenges, reduced nutritional intake, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
I also have a strong clinical interest in supporting non-verbal children who benefit from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). In particular, I work with emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and eye-gaze systems to help children access meaningful, functional communication.
Throughout my career, I have served as a bilingual pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist in a wide range of settings, including universities, hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, public schools, early childhood intervention programs, and private practice. For nearly a decade, I also worked as a Clinical Educator in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at the University of Houston, where I trained and mentored future clinicians.
My doctoral research examined the integration of curriculum, student inclusion, and teacher capacity to support the successful inclusion of an English learner with autism spectrum disorder in a public school setting. This work reflects my ongoing commitment to addressing real-world challenges in education and clinical practice.
Together, my clinical, academic, and research experiences allow me to provide thoughtful, individualized care that supports children with developmental disabilities and empowers the families who support them.
